COME Racing Alloy head range expands
In these tough times we are spending enormous time and effort in the development of new and improved versions of all our products. Our latest 2009 VN Holden V8 alloy heads are just the tip of the iceberg. These heads are the FIRST and only Holden V8 heads on the market to be a true out of the box bolt on power maker with ZERO porting required for engines up to at least 550bhp. Bottom line, bolt these $3500.00 per pair complete heads on your street or strip Holden V8 and they are equally at home on a mild 380bhp daily driver 355 or a Bracket Race 383/396 stroker making over 550bhp.
With small 182cc intake runner volumes for incredible air speed and over 570bhp potential through these small high velocity runners you will always make the best possible power and torque compared to fully ported cast iron heads and any other alloy heads on the market today. This is a simple fact of life and most importantly the cost is actually lower per cfm of airflow than anything on the market today. We realise traditional head porters are not happy because they are no longer needed to modify factory or other aftermarket heads for you to make maximum power.
To that end however, we have also catered for the higher power level applications right up to full race engine needs in a new collaborative effort with renowned 5 axis computer numerical control cylinder head porting company Bullet Cylinder Heads in Adelaide http://www.bulletcylinderheads.com.au/ They have developed some incredible automatic machine ported combinations using our latest 2009 castings. For those of you wanting to maximise results with primarily big capacity engines or race applications Bullets fully machine ported heads will outflow anything else on the market by a large margin.
The Bullet computer ported COME 2009 heads are available direct from Bullet or from COME Racing. Making big power from your Holden V8 has never been easier with parts you can take out of the box and bolt together.
For example...take our 355 forged piston Stroker kit, our out of the box UNPORTED 2009 alloy heads complete and our COME Racing Twin Throttle Body intake. Use one of our hydraulic flat tappet streetable cam profiles and you have a genuine 450bhp easily. Want to go bigger, the same applies to our 383 and 396 versions which make insane torque as well as power. 500+bhp in fairly streetable engines is now very straightforward.
You want to race more than street drive? Add our new 2009 Computer ported street heads to a 383 or 396 engine and make 550+ bhp with absolute ease on pump 98 octane fuel. A complete pair of these computer ported heads which flow over 640bhp are $5500.00 per pair including full valve seat job, dual flat tappet 1.450" springs, moly retainers and locks, positive stem seals, solid bronze valve guides, Ferrea stainless steel extra length 2.08" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves.
Remember also our NEW Holden VN V8 style single plane single 4 barrel carb intake manifold will be available very soon to totally rewrite the power potential of carbed combinations of the big cubic inch Holden V8's. We will now have you covered for EFI or carb intake. You all know the reputation of our EFI manifold. The new carb intake will provide the same boost to carbed combinations as the sorely needed EFI version did all those years ago. A new level of performance has been needed for the carb intake for many years, it will soon be here.
Remember also...COME Racing heads are fully designed, developed and manufactured right here in Australia. The quality of materials and machining is second to none so if you are tempted to look at the junk coming from Asia we suggest you spend more on the local product because in the long run our local product will actually prove to be the lower cost alternative. Don't just think with your hip pocket nerve, it will bite you when you realise you have bought an inferior product that cannot produce the results of ours no matter what you are told.

COME Racing 2009 VN-VT Holden alloy heads

NEW! The latest version of our ever popular alloy heads for Holden V8 engines is now available.
1) NEW! Redesigned combustion chambers for maximum swirl and burn efficiency.
2) NEW! Spark plug moved for maximum burn while still working with production extractors.
3) Stellite interlocking valve seats for use with any fuels.
4) NEW! solid phosphor bronze valve guides for maximum strength and service life.
5) NEW! increased amount of solid alloy material in water cores for maximum porting potential, feasibility to deepen and widen spring seats for any available roller or flat tappet springs. More material in decks, intake and exhaust faces for incredible strength under extreme loads.
6) NEW! redesigned intake and exhaust ports for maximum airflow with increased velocity. Low, mid and high lift flows improved by over 10% in most areas. Intake port volume kept to a small high velocity 183cc size for vastly improved torque and engine acceleration potential.
7) NEW! these are truly the first and only Holden V8 alloy heads designed to be used right out of the box with absolutely NO porting whatsoever. With a proper valve job only, the intakes flow over 545 bhp @.500" valve lift, over 570 bhp @ .600" lift and over 588 bhp @.700" lift with a small 2.02" non undercut intake valve. This is with no bowl blending or porting whatsoever.
8) NEW! race potential without porting never before seen. Throat the installed intake seats to a 2.08" valve size with a proper valve job and very minor bowls blending to one centimeter below the bottom seat and the same small 183cc intake runners flow over 630 bhp @.700" valve lift with still incredibly strong low to mid lift flow numbers.
This latest technology street/strip head from COME Racing will outpower and out accelerate anything else on the market. By the way, get in there with the right porting and you will see awesome flow numbers for race only applications. However, we strongly suggest if you are building a great street/strip engine that you forget about the porting altogether, you simply won't need it. Opening the port volume further by porting the heads will see flow gains but only at the upper valve lifts suitable for race only applications.
Keeping the volumes smaller keeps the air speed or velocity very high and promotes incredible torque curves and throttle response while enabling huge power gains with the right combinations. Heads as before are available bare with only guides and seats installed for $2750.00 per pair. Or as a complete package including our 2.02" intake and 1.60" stainless intake and exhaust valves, full valve job to maximise air flow potential, dual coil flat tappet or hydraulic roller application 1.450" springs and chrome moly steel retainers on hardened steel spring locators to protect the alloy spring pockets, positive valve stem seals and gasket faces finish machined to approximately 62cc equalised volumes. Other chamber volumes also available. The complete 2009 head package is still only $3500.00 per pair fully assembled.
To complete your engine we now have finally released our beautiful new cast alloy non leak valve covers to really complete any Holden V8 engine. These are $550.00 per pair and feature 4 bolt fastening with capscrew bolts (supplied), oil filler cap, baffle plates for PCV or breather vent raw oil restriction and are drilled and tapped for front mount right angle breather fittings (supplied) to accept hoses like the OEM VN factory design. You have the choice of a fully clearanced cover to clear the VN-VT Commodore brake booster on the drivers side cover or to buy the covers without the special clearanced Commodore version for a more uniform look in all other model cars where symmetrical appearance is more important.

COME CAMS!
COME Racing is still the only camshaft manufacturer in Australia that designs and tests every profile in house in our own engines on our own engine dyno. We know we are not the lowest price cam supplier but with the recent fall in the Australian dollar versus the U.S dollar, prices of imported cams will inevitably rise bringing our products closer to the U.S versions. The real point of course is that price is not everything in the performance parts market. You need to realise that each of our cams is ground in house by someone with a lifetime of experience on a truly custom basis. Every cam is hardness tested for material consistency, then surface finish tested to ensure the smoothest interface between lifter and lobes and finally straightness checked to ensure valve timings are consistent cylinder to cylinder. All our roller cams have micropolished lobes to ensure surface finishes of under 5 RA for the longest possible life and minimum friction between lobes and lifters. This attention to detail and the fact that we are the best equipped knowledge source for choosing the right profile the first time is why you need to buy our cams. There is no substitute for experience in design, testing and manufacture of a critical product like your engines camshaft...I'm the person who will be grinding your cam...you can rest assured it will be the best quality product you will find anywhere...They don't call me "Sam the Cam" for nothing!
Go to the "cam" section of our website http://www.comeracing.com/products/cams/ and then send me a message if you need guidance on an appropriate profile selection.

The heart of your engine, the CAMSHAFT...
Still one of the most misunderstood components in performance engine building today. You can use the latest computer simulation programs, read the flashy catalogues, go on the forums to be misled day in day out. The bottom line is the only people capable of really choosing a camshaft profile correctly are those who really know and understand how an engine works.
Those who build engines all day long and test thousands of combinations to find optimum components matches. Those who actually design and manufacture engine components including camshafts and test their theories day in day out on an engine dyno to really evaluate the torque curves they are looking for. Most importantly, those who really love their craft and get real satisfaction out of creating a component mix that does everything and more it is supposed to.
If you look around Australia's performance industry you will not find any other company here that goes to the trouble and expense of developing performance components designed to work to maximise your results on the street or race track. Before just buying a camshaft or any performance product being recommended by the local performance guru, do some research yourself. It may save you the grief of finding that the 1st selection of components, particularly the camshaft, did not produce the desired effect.
Our COME Cams are designed using the latest software which takes into account an incredible range of valvetrain dynamics, weights, valve motion characteristics and valve spring rates. Our master cams are then machined on CNC grinding machines to almost immeasureable accuracy. This final master cam is then used on our in house grinders to produce the most accurate cam profiles possible. That's only the beginning. We verify the effectiveness of every profile in custom built dyno test engines to ensure the designs produce exactly what they are supposed to...maximum power and torque, maximum valve train stability for long valve train life and the quietest possible operating efficiency.
There's more to making a cam than just copying someone elses grinds. We prefer to design and test our own ideas before they end up in your engine and you become the "test mule". A camshaft is indeed one product you want to get right the first time, it effects your whole engine combination dramatically because it truly is the "heart of your engine" regulating almost everything that the engine produces.
If you think about it carefully can you imagine the number of camshaft types there really are? Automotive, motorcycle, petrol, diesel, aircraft, marine and lots more. COME Cams does only cams for very specific engine types. We narrow our focus because it's impossible to cover all those possibilities successfully and achieve maximum results from all of them. There are simply not enough hours in the day to devote to a real development program to cover all bases. Most cam companies buy existing performance grinds and copy them to enable them to extend their master cam libraries.
The problem with this logic is that copies are never quite the same as the original. Frankly, if one does not know the diameter of the grinding wheel used to make the donor cam then the copy cannot be accurately reproduced. We prefer to design and develop our own range of profiles with todays technology. Our results in the cam industry have been documented over more than 20 years by successful racers and street users throughout Australia.
COME Racing manufactures cams for Holden V8, Chev LS1/LS2/LS3/LS7 V8, Holden V6, Ford V8's, Chev Small and Big Block V8's. Our cam product range to suit these engines is by far the most advanced technologically in Australia and we work hard to keep it that way. When you need a camshaft to suit these engines it would be useful for you to email us at workshop@comeracing.com for an urgent cam recommendation and pricing, or to come@comeracing.com for cam or other product enquiries. Remember, the cheapest cam you can buy is the one that works best the first time.
If you still prefer to choose your own profile, as us for our complete catalogue. We can email this or post it to you in hard copy by regular post. You can of course call us during business hours on (03)9571-4204 for help with all our products.

440ci LS1 Piledriver

Want maximum capacity out of your LS1 equipped vehicle. Our 440ci version is a lot of engine for any application. These big engines are quite tractable even with large camshafts, big inductions and high compression ratios. We offer the 440's in power levels from a mild 550 bhp (410kw) version for exceptional daily use manners up to very radical versions for more extreme owners. This version shown here was built for a customer who named the engine for us...the PILEDRIVER! Still a very tractable but powerful version with typical moderately rough idle, pump 98 octane fuel capability and torque to rival a Mack Truck.
The Piledriver version has CNC ported GM Performance parts heads with final intake port volume size of close to 280cc's. True Big Block numbers with air flow to match. Over 11.5:1 compression ratio, our latest design LSCH-945 camshaft with 245/257 degrees @.050" intake/exhaust, .560" lift and ground on 114 degree lobe centres. This like all our LS1 style grinds do not sacrifice power and torque output for smooth valve train action and quiet operation. The bottom end features a brand new GM alloy 427 (7 litre)LS7 cylinder block that has been fully prepped and fitted with our 4340 forged steel 4.100" stroke crank, our latest design 6.1" "H" beam 4340 steel con rods and custom made Diamond Racing forged pistons and rings. The top end is completed with GM's latest L92 square port intake and our own custom made billet alloy 95mm throttle body.
The Piledriver is not cheap at a baseline $25,000 (depending on outright or changeover) but with 626 bhp (467 kws)@ 6000 rpm and 594 ft.lbs torque (805nm)@5200 rpm in a very driveable and still fuel efficient combination, you would be hard pressed to find better value for money in the "big" engine stakes. No blowers, intercoolers, turbos, plumbing or headaches here. The toughest parts in an engine swap that ends up looking like a stock LS1 and in fact is physically identical in all dimensions so fits straight in anywhere you had an LS1 or LS2. With a 2750 rpm torque figure of 468 ft.lbs you can forget about needing stiffer diff ratios or hi stall torque converters.
Both the Piledriver 440 and the fantastic Sledgehammer 427 are both also available in components only packages for those wishing to assemble and build their own versions. A fully prepped LS7 block is $5500.00, 427 crank kits start at $3100.00, 440 crank kits with the best parts are $4500.00, GM Performance parts heads fully prepped for the 427 are $3500.00 including the special offset intake rocker arms required. The CNC ported 440ci versions of these heads are $5000.00 fully prepared. The matching intake manifold, fuel rails injectors and billet 90mm throttle body induction package is $4500.00 to suit the 427ci Sledgehammer. The same induction package for the Piledriver 440ci engine with fully port matched intake runners to suit the CNC ported heads and our custom billet 95mm throttle body is $6500.00 Our matching camshafts are only $550.00 You have a choice of over 50 grinds.

427ci LS1 Sledgehammer

Is your 5.7 LS1 getting tired? We have an alternative you may find hard to resist...our 427ci (7 litre) outright long motor with 605 bhp and 583 ft.lbs torque. There are no inflation problems here either, our prices are DROPPING. This long engine will cost you only $18,000 assembled. you will use the oil pan, coil packs and other external bolt on ancillaries off your original LS1 engine to fully complete the engine. It is is physically identical to your LS1/LS2 in all dimensions so drops straight in to all model Commodores from '99-2008. Need us to dyno run in the engine and otimimise software tuning so all you need to do is drop it in and go drive?..add $2000.00 This is a bargain in anyones language.
You can also buy this engine UNASSEMBLED which includes a brand new fully prepared LS7 GM aluminium block, our complete 427ci Stroker kit with Wiseco or Diamond Racing forged pistons, 4340 steel "I" beam rods and our proven nodular 4.00" stroke crank all fully balanced with new GM crank angle sensor fitted and moly rings with rod and main bearings supplied. A new Powerbond keyed balancer, brand new GM L92 big port cylinder heads, fully prepared with our special conical valve springs, full valve job, chrome moly retainers, new pushrods, COME LSCH-936 hydraulic roller camshaft (specifically developed for this combination), new roller lifters, new timing set, new blueprinted oil pump, timing case cover with cam angle sensor, LS7 valley cover plate, full GM gasket set and head bolts, new L92 big port GM intake manifold with fuel rails and injectors, new COME Racing billet alloy 90mm Throttle body. All this ready to assemble for only...$17,000...These offers are limited and won't last forever.
The incredible power and torque of these engines as well as great daily driveability is something one needs to really experience to appreciate. Peak power is made at no more than 5750 rpm with peak torque at 4750 rpm. Don't look only at the peak numbers. As we keep drumming into your heads, it's the torque curve that makes the car accelerate and be driveable. These monsters have over 450ft.lbs torque as low as 2750 rpm. Tuned correctly and driven correctly they can also be incredibly fuel efficient in most conditions. There are many so called experts offering big power LS1 based combinations but no one will give you this torque curve, reliability at these prices...no one!

427ci (7 litre) COME Racing alloy engines 427ci Holden V8 replacement
Our hand crafted all alloy 427ci Holden replacement engines are now steadily shipping. You have a unique opportunity to own this one of a kind engine for street applications in Hot Rods, kit cars, earlier Holden model restorations right up to late model Commodores. Available in carb or EFI configuartion turn key dyno run in engines making your choice of power from 480bhp to 550bhp on pump 98 octane fuels. At $25,000 outright this is the best performance engine value today with the high machining cost of prepping a factory used block and still coming up significantly short in the engine capacity stakes. Not to mention the fact that these hand built engines feature all the top race developed attributes only available in a hand built and crafted "custom" made engine. We of course also offer these engines in unassembled form, in parts only form from the beautiful work of art alloy block, to our latest 2007 series alloy heads, full billet steel crank rotating assemblies and hydraulic roller camshafts designed and built in house. No other Australian performance company can provide a "whole" engine like this. Many and varied optional power and torque curves are available to suit your real application and vehicle.
NOW AVAILABLE, our long awaited Ecotec V6 Twin Throttle Body intake plenum assembly. These are $1750.00 delivered (in Australia) and represent incredible torque as well as peak power gains over the broadest rpm range imaginable. Whether bolted onto a stock 3.8 with improved exhaust or fully built 3.8 or 4.2 stroker, you will gain excellent results with this bolt on manifold plenum. Ideal also for boost engines where traditionally airflow restrictions have required much more expensive custom built intakes which frankly are untested and not scientifically designed like ours.

Holden Stroker Kits and cranks
Highest quality, lower prices!
The COME Racing Holden V8 and V6 stroker cranks and kits are the most popular in Australia by a huge margin. With great strides in production efficiencies we are now offering our cranks and kits at hugely discounted prices...PERMANENTLY. There is now no excuse for rebuilding or modifying your Holden V8 without stroking it to a 355ci or 383ci capacity. All COME cranks are fully machined on our Berco production crank grinders to maximise accuracy of journal sizes and perfect indexing to ensure journals are exactly 90 degrees apart for maximum engine smoothness and power output. You do have alternatives with other cranks on the market, some at even lower prices than ours. If you want the best quality and strongest cranks on the market and at the best prices you now have no need to go by price alone. There is also no need to compromise on buying a cheaper kit with lower power potential pistons or other such components so you cannot upgrade power safely a little down the track when you get greedy for more. All our kits for street/strip applications feature 4340 grade steel connecting rods with ARP bolts and the toughest performance pistons in the industry.
383ci Strokers...fact and fiction...
Our competitors would have you believe that Holden 383 stroker engines.....
Wear out more quickly...won't have high rpm potential...won't make more power than a 355...wear out cylinder bores due to higher piston side loads...are much more expensive to build...will blow up more easily...will use more fuel...amongst a host of other lame excuses as to why you should buy their 355ci stroker kits and ONLY build a Holden to a maximum of 355ci
FACTS...383ci Holden engines easily last as long as any other Holden V8...We have built customers 383's since 1993 some of which have done over 300,000kms and they are still running. We've had at least 100 of these engines back in our shop over the years for rebuilds and absolutely normal wear patterns were obvious. No unusual "side loading" of bores to create rapid wear or split bores. Our powerful engine packages like the "Ultimate" or S.S-3 versions with large port cylinder heads and unrestricted intake manifolds make insane power levels and their biggest feature...incredible torque. Well above anything any 355 could ever hope to achieve. They also achieve these power levels at lower rpm levels for more long term reliability and life potential. YES, they have always been MORE expensive to build. Now with our new pricing levels the gap is very marginal. Only slightly more block clearancing is required over that needed for the 355. Particularly with our EFI 383 engines customers report lower fuel consumption than even stock 5 litre engines when driven sensibly. With so much more torque on hand large throttle openings are simply not required to rapidly accelerate the car. This keeps the engine in closed loop mode much longer actually reducing fuel consumption. If you need any more convincing look at our own Torana's 383 race engine...over 500 1/4 mile passes making over 850 bhp and the crank is still the same one from way back in 1996. Look at Darren Parker's VP SS Commodore reliability results shown in a recent weblog entry below (scroll down for details). Finally look at Eddie Tassone's world record holding twin turbo 383 Holden V8 with over 1890rwhp, 8.1 second 1/4 mile times @ 178 mph. Ask Eddie what he thinks about COME components and particularly our Holden 383 cranks. NONE of these race 383's doing well over 7000 rpm has EVER "blown up".
TALK IS CHEAP...FACTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

Ecotec V6 4.2 litre Blower engine

The Ecotec Holden V6 has come a long way. With our development of a full range of performance parts for these engines there are new limits to their capabilities. The engine shown above started as one of our off the shelf outright crate motors to suit boost applications. This engine is sold as a long motor outright for $10,500.00 fully dyno run in, in normally aspirated form ready to receive whichever form of boost setup you prefer, blower or turbo. This particular customer supplied us with a very large (too large) Vortec blower and full kit including intercooler, blow off valve, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, pulleys etc. to complete the blower installation. Unfortunately the regulator was faulty, the lower pulley did not fit the stock balancer and we had to do major fabrications, the top blower pulley was way too small for an engine this size and a new $400.00 version was needed. There were many other small items needing to be done and other pieces fabricated to make this a viable installation. Buyers need to keep these factors in mind when buying a $10,000.00 plus blower kit that is supposed to be a "simple" bolt on. Using the latest Kalmaker Mafless boost software and fitted with our newly developed Twin Throttle Body Ecotec intake manifold plenum this little "midget" engine displacing 256ci (just under 4.3 litres) made 505 BHP @ 5750 rpm and 424 ft.lbs torque @ 4500 rpm Maximum boost at 5750 rpm was 14.5 psi
The size of this blower being clearly too large was evident in boost lag below 3500 rpm. In fact we saw 3-4 psi @ 2750 fully loaded at which point the engine made 291 ft.lbs torque. By 4000 rpm the boost was rushing in at 8-10 psi and 415 ft.lbs was registering. At the peak rpm of 5750 peak torque of 461 ft.lbs hit home. Now considering the size of this little engine, pump fuel being used and VERY, VERY conservative tuning this power/torque is pretty astonishing when one looks at the low rpm range.
We still feel a smaller blower would have worked better to maximise overall results and reduce the lag that most people associate with turbos. Trust me the blowers if too big are no different. Nevertheless considering the results you could easily shove this little monster into a typical VS Commodore with a set of 3.9:1 diff gears, slicks, optimised exhaust system and say a boost friendly torque converter with about 2800 rpm stall speed and easily run high 10 second 1/4 mile times. Then just drive it home and achieve great fuel economy. The latest "self learn" feature of the Kalmaker software optimises the fuel curve almost itself in no boost cruising situations off the normal dual O2 sensor imputs and keeps the engine clean and efficient at part throttle.
Engine specs: COME 4.2 litre stroker crank (nodular iron) 3.700" stroke, custom length "H" beam 4340 steel rods, Wiseco forged 8.2:1 compression forged pistons, fully ported Ecotec cast iron factory cylinder heads which flow over 350 bhp through intake ports, COME CSBR-523 hydraulic roller camshaft, Speed Pro lifters, COME Conical valve springs and chrome moly retainers, single row timing set retaining balance shaft for street smoothness, blueprinted production oil pump, fully prepared block with line honed main tunnels, bored and torque plate honed to +.030" oversize, deck surfaces machined and equalised with "O" ring grooves cut and "O" ring wire fitted, Ridgecrest custom made copper head gaskets fitted. Production rocker arms and pushrods retained. They are very strong pieces and everyone throws them out...how stupid can you be? Use them they are tough pieces. Only the pushrods need replacement if you are going to really "turn" the engine very hard. New COME Twin Throttle Body intake plenum fitted on port matched stock Ecotec intake runner base. Stock PCV breather system eliminated to prevent interraction with boost application. Will need external breather setup via rocker covers to catch can or more elaborate breather system.
We are doing deals on all our engine packages and components, particularly for those buying multiple parts at one time to achieve a certain build up. Call us during business hours 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday-Friday on (03)9571-4204 or email come@comeracing.com Trade or urgent enquiries please to workshop@comeracing.com

Holden Ecotec V6 manifold test
Ecotec V6 manifold development
Extensive development and testing over the part 15 months has finally yeilded a great bolt on for Ecotec V6 owners. Fitted to an 8.2:1 compression 4.2 litre Ecotec stroker engine on our engine dyno the facts speak for themselves. With peak power of 241 BHP @5500 rpm with stock intake and throttle body the new COME intake plenum with billet dual 58mm throttle bodies produced 266 BHP @5500 rpm. The best part however was something we were really looking for and that was the awesome torque curve improvement. At 2750 rpm the stock setup made 238 ft.lbs the COME intake had 264 ft.lbs Peak torque for both occurred at 4250 rpm, 260ft.lbs for the stock intake versus 278 ft.lbs for the COME intake.
Note, the same stock MAF was fitted for both tests. Tests were conducted within one hour of one another and the atmospheric conditions remained reasonably similar with conditions becoming worse rather than better as the day proceeded. Optimum software tuning was applied to both setups and as we expected with the more efficient new manifold, we cut back on the fuel curve to maximise results. Incidentally, stock VS Ecotec #973 injectors were being employed in this baseline test and had plenty more room before running out of fuel flow needs for this engine. This is the same trend we experience with our V8 Twin Throttle Body intake and the results for that piece are well documented.
The Ecotec manifold we have developed will really open up the Ecotec performance potential for all applications including normally aspirated or boost setups. The best part of course is the fact that our intake plenum is a simple bolt on. It bolts on in place of the original plenum on top of the stock intake runner base. The original base is a very effective peice and can easily be ported for maximum effort so there was no point replacing the "good" factory base. The problem all along has been the plenum and throttle body assembly. In fact, bolting one of these new Twin Throttle Body plenums on even a stock Ecotec 3.8 will yeild instant significant power and torque gains. Add a little cam and software upgrade and 50 bhp gains will be easily achieved.
We still have a few small items to finalise in the design, primarily an intake snorkel setup, correct linkage on the throttle body to mate with production accelerator cables, some detailed changes to allow additional vacuum ports and finally an alternative PCV valve system which will be more desireable for strokers or boost setups. Basically, the hard work is done and we expect to have the new manifolds available for sale within the next 6 weeks or so. Final price has not been determined yet. We are hoping to offer the manifold plenum, billet throttle body and intake snorkel for around $1700.00 If a price close to this is finally feasible, this bolt on is the biggest Ecotec power versus cost bargain you will ever find. More importantly it will move this engine into a realm not seen before. The manifold will raise the bar for much greater power outputs for the Ecotec V6 no matter if it is built as a stroker, stock 3.8, boost, N2O or normally aspirated.
As with our Holden V8 engine packages, we will be offering fully built 4.2 stroker engines already fitted with our new intake as changeover engine packages or available as outright buys in the "crate" engine form so common today. There is really no reason now that our typical 220kw Ecotec 4.2 litre V6 cannot now be available as a 230-240kw engine package in normally aspirated form. We envisage these engines to be sold exchange for around $10,000, fully dyno run in and optimised including the new manifold.

383 Holden reliability and performance

383 Holden EFI...9.98 E.T @133 mph
Darren Parker and his VP SS Commodore ran an excellent 9.98 ET and backed it up with a 9.99 finishing runner up in the recent Summernationals at WSID in Sydney. Just last weekend Darren did it again by winning the West Coast race in Perth. The COME 383 has done almost 500 passes in Darren's Commodore. The engine was freshened a 2nd time late last year and still has one of our nodular cast cranks and Keith Black hyperuetectic piston. On this most recent birthday we decided not to be greedy and change the rods and pistons. 500 passes is a lot of work and we can't complain about "street" type components not giving us incredible value for money. In fact, the cast crank looks like new, has no cracks (after all that work) so it went back in. A new set of COME "H" beam rods and custom Wiseco forged pistons were also fitted to complete the upgrade.
This engine is based on our 383 Ultimate EFI Holden but has optional solid roller cam and valvetrain, makes 550 bhp on our engine dyno and crosses the finish line just over 7000 rpm every run. You won't find find too many combinations as effective and reliable as this for a weekend Bracket Racer application or for street strip use with it's normal hydraulic roller valvetrain and pump fuel version putting our over 480 bhp year after year.
If you are building a Holden V8 as we've said before, give the 383ci capacity stroker a strong consideration. Everyone immediately opts for the 355ci strokers without realising the incredible benefits of the 383 version. To entice everyone considering which capacity stroker to go for we have the following special deals to consider:
1) 383ci 9:1 compression Stroker kit including our 3.750" nodular cast centre counterweighted crank, "I" beam 4340 steel forged conrods, Keith Black hyperuetectic 9:1 compression pistons (up to 9.5:1), moly rings, rod and main bearings and the whole assembly is fully balanced internally...$2750.00 delivered anywhere in Australia.
2) 383ci 10:1 compression Stroker kit includes everything the above kit has plus features higher compression Keith Black hyperuetectic pistons and your choice of press fit or fully flaoting COME "I" beam con rods. The kit is fully balanced internally...$3000.00 delivered anywhere in Australia.
If you are one of those people who must have the best and want either kit to include our latest billet 4340 steel crank just add...$1500.00 to either of the above prices.
There are even bigger deals available for purchases of crank kit and any of our other components at the same time. You will really save money if you order crank kit, our EFI Twin Throttle Body intake manifold and cam, lifter, chip combinations and/or our latest 2006 VN style alloy heads. This also takes the guesswork out of combination building and final tuning hassles. Basically, machine your block, put the whole lot together and turn the key.
For those not wanting to do the work themselves we have some great fully built engine combinations to satisfy every budget and power need. You also need to consider our all alloy crate motors. Our complete 400ci all aluminium engines are on the shelf ready to deliver. We have carburettored "Street" 400ci alloy engines ready to go for $20,000. These killers make a totally streetable 500 + BHP and 500+ ft.lbs torque...ON PUMP 98 FUEL. EFI versions are also ready to go for $22,000 These engines use the same cranks, rods and Keith Black pistons found in Darren Parkers race winning engine, so you know they will last many many years in street and occassional strip applications with virtually maintenance free hydraulic roller valvetrains.
LS1 crate motors
We haven't forgotten the late model Commodore owners either. To make performance upgrades easier we have embarked on a crate motor program for the LS1/LS2 style engines as well. Initially, we will be offering easy upgrades for LS1 5.7 litre owners in the form of 408ci short motors. By retaining your complete LS1 top end and simply adding one of our "brand new" 408ci short motors you instantly have 550+BHP and 550+ft.lbs torque to play with with stock LS1 heads and intake manifold. Our 408 short blocks come completely assembled and blueprinted with our ever popular 4.00" stroke nodular crank, new crank angle sensor, "I" beam 4340 steel full floating con rods, custom Wiseco forged pistons, moly rings, new rod and main beaings with the whole assembly fully balanced internally and all fitted into a brand new GM 6.0 litre alloy block. These short blocks include our now famous COME LS1 camshafts (you have a big choice of grinds) and timing set. Short block price, outright, delivered in Australia...$8000.00 Add $500.00 for "H" beam conrods.
Other combinations will be available soon, including turn key outright engines and long motors. Call or email if you have any specific queries about our latest deals. We are fighting inflation with lower prices on the best quality components in the performance industry. Your support over the last 25 plus years has enabled us to streamline production volumes and costs so we are passing the savings on wherever we can. Call on (03)9571-4204 or email come@comeracing.com

427ci COME alloy engine # 1
The first COME Racing all alloy 427ci street, pump fuel engine is going together right now. Got an early Holden, Hot-Rod, Kit car, 4x4, truck, Trike or any project car you want to make absolutely unique while having as much or more power and torque than almost anything available in mass produced crate motors? This is the engine to invest in!
The only true hand built all alloy complete V8 engine designed and built right here in Australia. Our block, cylinder heads, intake manifold, camshafts, crankshafts and connecting rods are all designed and built right here to be the most durable, cost effective performance powerplant available in Australia at any price. The beautiful part is the fact that it bolts right into any car originally built with the one and only Holden (Plastic) V8 and is very easily adapted to bolt into virtually any chassis.
This complete pump fuel engine in various power levels from 550-600 bhp and well over 550 ft.lbs torque, dyno run in and optimised is $25,000 Compare this to a fully built production engine with similar power. In most cases stroker versions costing a lot more money will be required to match the COME alloy 427. Frankly, you will realistically need a very costly engine buildup with blowers, turbos or N2O to compete with the power to weight potential of our 427 alloy engine. When all is said and done, the asking price of our alloy 427 is more than reasonable if you do your comparison sums accurately.
New Product:
We now have available forged 4340 steel "H" beam rods to suit stock stroke Holden Ecotec V6 engines. Many customers have asked for these rods in stock centre to centre length. The pin end bore size is the same as the Supercharged V6 rod with .905" bores. These balanced rod sets are $990.00 We also have available matching low compression blower/turbo pistons as well as high compression versions to suit these rods using a production crankshaft or our soon to be available billet steel stock stroke or stroker cranks. The pistons are custom full race forgings made for us by Wiseco pistons in the U.S. Piston sets with rings are $1,650.00 in .030" oversize.
Incidentally, due to a strong customer response we will be continuing our January 2007 special deals through to the end of February 2007. We appreciate your support and will strive to provide the best components at the best possible prices. Trade enquiries are welcome and we have great deals for the performance and engine shops as well.
New Product # 2
Our ever popular Holden billet 4340 steel 355ci cranks are now ALSO available with Holden V8 con rod journals as well as the popular version with Chev 2.1" rod journals. They are also included in our specials list from last month for the same price as the Chev rod journal version. We also have a full range of rods to suit both versions in both "I" and "H" beam designs in 5.7" centre to centre as well as other lengths.

Holden VN-VR 4.2 litre Stroker engines and components

The Holden V6 revolution continues with the earlier VN-VR V6 3.8 litre engines now growing to a healthy 4.2 litres.
In addition to the already popular 4.2 litre Ecotec engine strokers for both normally aspirated as well as boost applications, owners of earlier model Holden V6's can now stretch the capacity of any VN Series 11, VP or VR V6 3.8 litre engine to 4.2 litres.
The engine shown here is one of many coming out of our shop with basic upgrades like fully ported S.T-3 cylinder heads, a COME billet Streetmaster Hydraulic Roller cam profile (numerous choices based on vehicle type and real customer end use). The engine is fully rebuilt and fitted with our latest brand new nodular iron 3.700" stroke large counterweight crankshaft, forged 4340 "I" beam con rods with heavy duty capscrew rod bolts and Hypertec alloy pistons.
This fully assembled, dyno run in and optimised engine is $8800.00 if you supply us your complete VN-VR engine for building. Or we can supply the long motors outright with extra cost depending on actual model required. Of course the price includes full assembly, ultrasonically cleaned and flowed injectors, full engine dyno run in and software optimisation with Twin Table Software supplied. You drop the engine back in the car, fit a fully upgraded exhaust, turn the key and drive with no further tuning required.
For the do-it-yourselfers, we offer a full range of fully balanced crank, rod and piston kits. The normally aspirated kit price is $2530.00 including, crank, rods, pistons, rings, rod and main bearings and full balancing of all components.
For boost or full race applications we offer the same super strong crank, "H" beam 4340 forged steel con rods and custom made Wiseco low or high compression forged pistons, rings, rod and main bearings also fully balanced for $4000.00
The same component combinations as our Ecotec ones are also available for the earlier model VN-VR V6's where we can supply fully machined and assembled normally aspirated 4.2 litre Stroker Short motors outright for $4500.00
Blower/Turbo 4.2 short motors outright for $6500.00 which include block deck "O" rings and custom made copper head gaskets.
All our short motors include a COME billet steel roller camshaft (your choice of grind) timing chain and gear set and new Ecotec harmonic balancer. Match either short block with our fully ported S.T-3 cylinder heads for $1995.00 outright or $1750.00 to do yours and you have a fully optimised combination to suit your exact application. No guessing or trial and error. We've done the research and development for you so you simply assemble and drive.
Typical power levels for a totally streetable normally aspirated 4.2 litre VN-VR engine as shown above are over 200kw (270+bhp) and 385nm (285 ft.lbs) torque in a daily driveable engine that still manages much better fuel mileage than a 5 litre Holden V8 but accelerates much quicker. In fact in a typical VN-VR Commodore such an engine will easily run mid to low 14's over the 1/4 miles with stock 3.08:1 diff ratio. Fit some 3.7:1 gears and a small hi stall converter and you have a cheap to build and run 13 second true daily driver.
For those of you with earlier Holdens or other possible transplant cars, 4 wheel drives etc. think of the possibilities of fitting a V6 like this instead of the typical V8 swaps. These engines make more grunt than many of the V8's and are smaller, lighter, more compact and in fact more legal to fit in many parts of Australia.
The Holden V6 revolution has only just begun. In fact, COME Racing is completing development right now of a dedicated Twin Throttle Body intake manifold to fully complement these new Stroker packages and this will extend the horizons of the V6 frontier enormously. Benefiting not only normally aspirated combinations but equally viable and advantageous for the boosted engines.

Best cam only LS1 engine upgrades in Australia
Its no secret that The LS1/LS2 Chev V8 fitted to late model Commodores is very responsive to cam upgrades. This example of a typical COME "Bracketmaster" fitted into a totally stock 5.7 LS1 engine, along with fully upgraded exhaust system and accurate real time "mafless" tuning by Active Automotive in Perth (08)9456-1111 shows the enormous gains possible. Driveability and even fuel economy is still very reasonable.
Eddie from Active Automotive along with many other real tuning experts around the country have been supplying and fitting our COME LS1 cams now for the last few years after failing to achieve anywhere near the results with other locally made LS1 cams or imported U.S brands. It's not only power/torque outputs which are relevant to these experts in the field. Proper cam designs offer QUIET valve train operation, reduced wear on valvetrain parts and very long valve spring life. Our cams have proven these benefits consistently as well as the ultimate in power output.
We know there have been numerous local cam grinders, who as a result of our cam designs effectiveness, have copied our profiles. Although that is very flattering it is also proof that these designs are the best available. Unfortunately, copies are never quite the same as the original master cam which is ground on a CNC grinder to 1,000,000th of an inch accuracy and this simply cannot be duplicated by a mile with conventional cam grinding machines. Take advantage of our camshaft development program. We are still the only cam company in Australia that designs all cam profiles in house, tests these profiles in engines built in house on our Superflow computerised engine dyno to ensure the results will be achieved by anyone.
We use HPTuners software to optimise tuning results and offer these baseline tunes to any professional or home tuners using HPTuners as a very viable and close starting point. Our LS1/LS2 cam range is huge with over 30 individual grinds to suit these engines and development continues daily with new grinds being developed and tested constantly. Our success with traditional Holden V8 camshaft profiles has spilled over into the LS1 cam range. For those with Holden, Chev and Ford V8's as well as the late model Holden V6 engines we offer a vast range of profiles for all these engines.
Email us your engine combination details for a cam recommendation to come@comeracing.com The biggest mistake with camshaft choices is a selection process based on a limited knowledge base. We have been building engines, successfully racing and developing engine components for nearly 30 years. Take advantage of this enormous data base of experience in camshaft design and application. The cam is truly the heart of your engine and must be chosen correctly to make your combination a truly successful one. This is what we specialise in and can ensure you maximise your results every time.
Feel free to call us (03)9571-4204 during business hours (8.30am-5.00pm Monday to Friday) for a cam recommendation. Ask for Sam, Issy or Lee to provide you with a valid recommendation for your application. We also offer a full range of valvetrain parts including our exclusive LS1 Conical valve springs and locally made chrome moly retainers for the late model Commodore V8.
For TRADE customers we have a rapid cam grinding service with 24 hour turnaround possible in most cases, usually at the most competitive pricing available for LS1 and Holden V8 roller camshafts. Best of all you will be fitting a cam that optimises power and reliability better than any other and for the most reasonable price.

AC DELCO DRAG RACE in Sydney September '06
Our Olds Cutlass finally had a safe fast outing after numerous problems with a totally new combination of transmission, engine, clutch and chassis changes. This obviously gives credence to the age old adage of make one change at a time or you may lose the plot.
It obviously didn't help that since 2002 we were supplied a dud transmision. Many problems being blamed on chassis, clutch and setup have finally proven to be transmission related as the process of elimination has brought this to the fore.
We've been racing for over 35 years and no matter how experienced one may be the problem with changing too many parameters at one time can be a nightmare till the combo is finally sorted. The situation with our local Calder Park tracks lack of professional National Open race meetings means it is difficult to do laps and dial the car in without travelling interstate. We were finally confident with the latest setup after numerous outings including the last disastrous epic in April '05 where the problems seemed to be over. On it's maiden run yours truly had a chute fail to deploy, was not used to the car and then braked late. A gardening trip into the WSID finish line area resulted in a shunt which was mainly cosmetic although it meant parts needed to be sourced from the U.S, painting and lots of man hours to repair the mess.
This time at WSID I was ready with great new Stroud twin chutes, some new brakes and hopefully a trans/clutch combo that got the car down the track safely. After qualifying on the bubble (#16) out of a 16 car field with over 20 entries, we were able to actually get into the race. Frankly, we knew we would not be going rounds as our class Competition Eliminator is run on class indexes and we did not have enough runs to improve the car to a safe "below the index" number to be highly competitive. We were not fussed. Just happy to do the qualifying runs and try to get a handle on the new combo was wonderful. We learned a great deal and will hopefully do quicker runs next time.
The car ran its best time and speed in first round although still beaten by the tough indexes. A 7.29 ET @ 193 MPH (310 kph) was wonderful to feel again with 3 G's generated on the launch there is nothing like an awesome accelerating machine like this to make life wonderful. The car has an Oldsmobile based 500ci Big Block Chev V8 with dual 4 barrel carbs running normally aspirated and makes about 1240 BHP. It runs a new Lenco 5 speed planetary transmission and twin plate "ACE" racing Pro Stock 8" style clutch.
We need to thank "108 Towing" for safely transporting the car to and from the Sydney and owner John Bethune for looking after the car and our equipment like they were his own. If you need a car transported and it's your "baby" call John on 0431 751057 He speciallises in prestige, collectible and race car transport. With a guy like this looking after your pride and joy you just don't ever worry.
The crew: big brother Issy always makes sure everything is set up correctly and safe, Lee Logins and John worked hard to keep us on track while Ange Katsaros spent the 2 days in the hospital after some creeps jumped him at a restaurant the first night we were there. Down on crew didn't matter, we all worked well and a little harder but got the right results.
Thanks also to the WSID track officials for organising the event so well as it ran smoothly. The track prep was perfect and Sydney gave us some wonderful weather to enjoy the racing days.
Getting back to business, we are at the moment completing the development of several new products to suit the Holden V8. Some great looking and very functional valve covers and a new single 4 barrel single plane race manifold designed to be the best power maker for larger capacity Holden V8 stroker engines. Our testing has shown gains over the current best intakes of over 25 bhp and excellent torque as well. We hope to have the valve covers available in the next few months and the manifold shortly thereafter. Keep looking at our updates on the website for further news of the availability of these new products.
Furthermore, for those who have been patient and asking, our alloy COME Racing engine blocks are now an off the shelf item with no waiting for stocks. We have finally gotten over the production delays and casting backlog to be able to supply blocks immediately. Remember they are direct replacements for any Holden V8 cast iron factory block from 1969-1999 and are available with 4.125" bore size off the shelf (400ci) or optional 4.00" bore for those resticted by capacity limits. Blocks are $8800.00 ready to go with billet alloy 4 bolt main splayed caps, priority oiling and many other features for handling any power levels. Call (03)9571-4204 or email come@comeracing.com for more details.

400ci COME Alloy engines coming off the production line
After several years of tedious development the steady stream of customers 400ci COME all alloy engines are now coming out of our shop and into numerous customer cars. The refinement and development process has been long winded and very frustrating at times but success with this product is now assured. This latest example has the latest features built into the cylinder head and block castings to maximise performance, efficiency and reliability. This "street" version EFI 400ci engine has our latest design hydraulic roller cam part # CSBR-646, runs perfectly on pump fuel (98 octane) and makes 507bhp uncorrected @6000 rpm and 476ft.lbs torque @4750 rpm normally aspirated.
The torque at 2750 rpm is 425 ft.lbs for an extremely strong engine all the way through a very broard rpm range. This customer requested we also make and fit a custom Nitrous Oxide system for the occassional Drag Strip run. We made a simple but very effective plate system fitted between our Twin Throttle Body and the actual intake manifold. We used the smallest available solenoids and the results are impressive with 633 bhp @5750 rpm and 692 ft.lbs torque @4750 rpm.
This engine in a typical early Commodore up to a VS model would easily achieve better fuel mileage than most stock 5 litre equipped cars and run some very impressive 1/4 mile times with proper tyres and traction. With the N2O it will simply be unmanageable without real drag slicks. The price of this engine outright is $25,000 and if you trade in an EFI 5 litre V8 you would be set back $22,000.
We will also supply any of the individual components to anyone wishing to build their own. The block, heads, crank kit, camshaft and intake manifold are all available individually. As well as this we also offer fully assembled short blocks and fully prepared heads. The engines incidentally can also be fitted with carburettors for simplicity and use in earlier models, for bracket race cars and Hot Rod projects. Remember this engine weighs no more than a Holden V6 so you circuit race enthusiasts building a Commodore for club racing take note.

COME-1 Torana runs 8.49 at WSID Nitro Champs

The COME-1 Torana was in the air again at the Nitro Championships at Sydney's WSID race track recently.
Issy was all strapped in again and ran the cars best time ever with the Holden 383ci engine after it was recently freshened and fitted with our latest 2004 series alloy VN style heads.
Car recorded an 8.49 ET at over 158 mph. The startline was excellent yeilding a 1.22 60ft short time.
Thanks to Peter Colburn Photos for the use of his well taken image of the car in flight.
Now it's back to the drawing board to see how soon we can stuff our complete all alloy COME Racing engine into the car with a bit more nitrous and run into the 7's. As they say, you don't know till you try.
We will again use the Torana as our mobile test bed for developing some new combinations and a few other parts we are looking at possibly manufacturing.

400ci COME Racing (Carb) Street engine

Being from a family of people whom 99% of which were murdered in Hitlers Nazi Holocaust gives great significance to the upcoming ANZAC day commemorations. I vividly remember watching the ANZAC day marches on the side of Swanston St. here in Melbourne over 45 years ago as a little boy enthralled by the vision of these Aussie heroes marching towards the Shrine of remembrance. Yes their numbers have thinned, but the debt of gratitude we owe to those and the original World War 1 diggers is immeasureable. We are privileged to live in a free country provided to us by the sacrifices of these gallant ones. We should not take this country for granted. Too many expect everything as a birthright, it's not, you must earn your position in a society like ours by remaining good citizens and always respecting the deeds of people like the ANZACS and remembering them forever as the true creators of our free safe society. "Lest we forget"
For all the rev heads, getting back to the subject of todays post is the birth of another one of our all Aussie 400ci COME Racing alloy engines This one destined for street use in an early model Commodore should be quite a fun play thing.
Fitted with our latest 2004 series unported alloy VN style heads the 400ci short block has our usual nodular iron 3.75" stroke crank, 4340 steel "I" beam COME 5.850" length rods and Keith Black pistons. Our COME CSBR-646 (new design profile) hydraulic roller camshaft and vertical bar custom roller lifters.
Final compression ratio is just over 11:1 for successful use on 98 octane pump fuel. The customer had a few restraints to our plans for this engine and insisted on keeping everything under the bonnet without scoops, so we fitted a Redline low rise single plane intake and 1" adapter/spacer and Holley 750 (4779) double pumper carb. Ignition was via a Bosch HEI curved to suit the combo. Engine was dyno tested with off the shelf Pacemaker 1 3/4" extractors to suit typical VN headed early Commodores.
Engine made 516 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 496 ft.lbs torque @ 4500 rpm in the dyno room. Who needs a Big Block Chev with this little animal under the bonnet? Best part is the engine has 450ft.lbs torque as low as 3000 rpm so a small converter is all that is needed as well as typical highway diff gears. By the way with an engine weight the same as an Ecotec V6 you will improve the handling and stopping not to mention better acceleration over any other V8 available today.
As an experiment, we fitted one of our Twin Thottle body EFI manifolds and instantly made over 530 bhp and over 500ft.lbs torque.
The carb version shown here costs $20,000 for the long motor outright and dyno run in. Carb and ignition are an extra $1200.00. The EFI version with our complete Twin Throttle body intake, fuel rails, injectors, distributor, Delco computer and Powerboard with custom real time tuned program is $24,000
With either, all you need is to add a starter, alternator, engine mounts and a few other small bits and you have the most cost effective street engine for virtually any modern or retro vehicle or kit car. Full race dry sumped versions also available.
Call (03)9571-4204 or email us at come@comeracing.com for further details or if you have specific questions.

COME-1 Torana runs 8.52 @ 158 mph at Calder Park

It was a balmy night on Friday the 8th April. We took the reliable old COME-1 Torana to Calder Park raceway for its first runs down it's home track (since updating its 383ci Holden engine). As usual it was up in the air aiming for the sky as Issy launched the car and it ran its fastest and quickest run ever with the "plastic" installed.
The beautiful new timing towers at Calder (thanks Bob and Ian) read out loud and clear an 8.52 ET @ 158.3 mph. The track is looking awesome and the boys doing the prep are to be congratulated.
Our Holden 383ci Stroker engine as many of you may remember received a birthday in the form of a freshen up and was fitted with our new 2004 series alloy heads and already shows the gains in spite of the fact we fitted some of the newest Goodyear slicks to replace the old worn out ones.
No, there's nothing wrong with the Goodyears, I personally would not use any other brand of Drag slick, period. What I meant was the fact that the new versions have larger rollout so our overall gearing suffered a little.
In other news, our V6 Ecotec Stroker crank, rod, piston kit has fallen behind schedule. But I can assure you, it will be worth the wait. the latest updated crank is absolutely perfect as are the slightly modified rods to enable adequate clearance in that tight little crankcase. We hope to have the kits released by June 2005. There will be a normally aspirated kit for $2530.00 and more radical setup for mild street Blower/Turbo/N2O setups including custom forged pistons for $3500.00 or full on high boost or competition application kits with "H" beam rods as well for $4000.00 a fully balanced kit.
We've also tackled the VP-VR engine and will be making kits available for these a little bit later. These engines with 8 bolt flywheel flanges will accept our Ecotec crank a custom rod and OEM type piston out of the 3.8 will be a bolt in. This combo will require the use of an Ecotec harmonic balancer and rebalancing the flywheel with extra counterweight like the Ecotec engine has, basically no big deal. This will entail making a custom rod to suit this application which is now in the works. This is in response to a big enquiry list from earlier V6 engine owners. Sorry we will not be doing a kit to suit earlier VN type engines at this stage.

C.O.M.E Racing Holden 383ci Terminator update

With the recent release of our new 2004 series aluminium head for the Holden based V8 engine we were keen to prepare a set for our Torana race car's Terminator 383ci Holden V8 engine.
In actual fact the Terminator has a factory cast iron production block but in reality the rest is an amalgum of our own made and other aftermarket parts.
The original nodular cast iron crank (fitted originally in 1996 for the G/Gas Drag Racing class wars) went back in with only a polish and rebalance. A new set of our own manufactured 4340 steel 5.7" "H" beam rods and the original Ross Racing forged flat top pistons and new Speed Pro rings, King rod and main bearings.
The original C.O.M.E solid roller grind camshaft CSBR-272-112 LC was reinstalled.
Mainly to provide valid comparison information on the effectiveness of the new cylinder heads. No other components were altered at all. The same 13.5:1 compression ratio was retained, oil pan and oiling system with Moroso external oil pump, out of the box Holley 950 Pro Series gasoline carb, MSD 7 series ignition and Pro Power coil, MSD crank trigger, fully ported (by Wilson Manifolds U.S.A) Harrop single plane intake with Wilson 2" spacer. As before a stock Holden EFI distributor was used as our crank trigger dizzy.
The head comparison proved to be very impressive. The original cast heads flowed over 590 bhp through 188cc intake runners but exhaust flow was always a limiting factor on the factory item. The original cast heads had a set of Manley titanium valves, Manley 1.625" roller springs, titanium retainers and 10 degree jumbo locks. The valves and springs had done an awesome job but we replaced them with new items identical to the originals. Intake valve sizes are 2.05" and 1.60" exhaust. We use a custom made Jesel rocker arm system with 1.6:1 ratio on intake and 1.65:1 on exhaust. This setup went back on with the same chrome moly 5/16" Manton pushrods.
Our new heads were ported to flow over 630 bhp through an intake runner of about 195cc's. The exhaust ports flowed nearly 10% better than the cast heads with relatively little work. We will go much further with these heads incidentally when we build the first of our Torana's 400ci all alloy Terminator engines.
The results were pretty impressive from our point of view. The last runs on the dyno for this cast iron headed Terminator made 620 bhp @ 6750 rpm and 535ft.lbs torque with the 112 degree lobe centre cam.
Our newly freshened Terminator with the new 2004 series heads made 663 bhp @6750 rpm and 549 ft.lbs torque at the same 5250 rpm
Even more telling as to the effectiveness of these heads were the comparisons of power using Nitrous oxide. Our system is a simple plate system using the smallest NOS solenoids and non adjustable spray bar setup. This is rated at a maximum of 125hp system on a typical street strip Small Block engine.
The cast iron headed engine managed 809 bhp and the best E.T for the car with this setup was 8.54 @ 157 mph.
The 2004 alloy headed engine made 883 bhp at the same 1000 psi nitrous bottle pressure. A testament to the improved combustion chambers design, port design and other subtle improvements we have incorporated. We will run the car as soon as is possible to evalute any performance gains at the track but not before we add about 100-150lbs of lead shot to the front of the car to keep the nose down on launch. It was already a big problem.
The dyno sheets are available to anyone. Email us for copies to come@comeracing.com
More importantly, if you are building a race Holden V8 or everyday driver the 2004 series COME Alloy heads have no pears in the power stakes. Remember they flow over 570 bhp out of the box with a 2.02" intake valve and 120 cfm @ 10" through the exhaust port with only minor bowl blending to the bottom cut of the seats. there is no need to port these heads at all for 90% of street/strip aplication on 5 litre, 355 or 383 engine combinations both normally aspirated of forced induction setups.
O.K we are giving you the kicker to convince you to go with the best value for money heads for the Holden V8 anywhere. For February 2005 they are at special prices as follows:
2004 COME heads bare $2750.00 a pair delivered anywhere in Australia free.
2004 COME heads complete an assembled with 2.02" intake and 1.60" exhaust stainless valves, 3 angle valve job, bowl blending, 1.450" springs, chrome moly retainers, positive seals and H.D valve locks, machined to whatever chamber size you need $3750.00 a pair delivered anywhere in Australia free.
This offer valid only till 1st March 2005. To order call us on (03)9571-4204 and quote the WEB SPECIAL to receive these prices.

New products for Holden V8 applications
Now available our 4340 steel oil pump drive gears to suit all Holden V8 applications using solid or hydraulic roller cams. The genuine Holden part enabling the use of steel roller cams in Holden V8 engines is no longer available so we have made our own.
These gears are compatible with any steel roller cams in Holden V8's and are priced at $220.00 each. If you convert to a roller cam this is the only gear change required as the distributor is under almost no load and will not require a gear change from the stock carb or EFI distributor types to convert successfully to a roller camshaft.
Finally, we have a new design hydraulic roller lifter set to suit all model Holden V8 blocks prior to the last VT version. These lifters totally cure the problem of not being able to run high lift cams and loss of oil pressure with oddball base circle size cams.
Our full skirt design keeps oil galleys fully covered with cams over .600" valve lift enabling those converting to hydraulic rollers to take full advantage of the high lift cam designs we offer.
After all, the big advantage of a hydraulic roller profile is the high lift possibilities without cam wear problems normally associated with flat tappet high lift cams, as well as the extra power potential of the roller designs.
The big lift profiles produce excellent power potential with even conservative duration numbers as we have proven time and time again. Now you have a consistent source for your roller lifters without worrying about keeping lift numbers under .550" as the other aftermarket items available require.
Our new retro fit hydraulic roller lifter sets are $1430.00 a set and are a simple drop in. They can also be used to replace OEM lifters in the VT model blocks but the extra long VT lifter bores need to be machined down to suit the vertical axle design of our lifters. This also means the factory retainer plate and lifter guides used in the VT engine are also no longer required.
We have a full range of hydraulic roller cam profiles to maximise your results. We can advise on a suitable profile to suit your engine combination.

LS1 oil pans. Extend LS1 engine life
Our extensive dyno and track testing has shown the weak point of the Commodore LS1 oil pan to consistently be the factory internal oil line system.
We have addressed this problem with 2 new oil pan options for LS1 owners. By deleting the factory oil lines and taking full volume oil pressure directly from the blocks main oil galley via dash 10 braided stainless hoses and hi flow fittings we have eliminated the ridiculous number of flow reducing bends created by the factory internal hose system.
Our new system has been created through the manufacture of very free flowing billet alloy adapters with built in "O" ring seals, a custom made rear oil galley flow fitting and direct oil flow through the external braided hoses shown.
Aside from the obvious advantage of uninterrupted increased oil flow volume, the deletion of internal steel hoses increases oil pan capacity and reduces crankshaft induced windage. The new external hoses also act as very effective oil cooling lines so there is no need for additional oil cooler setups although these can also be incorporated easily if desired.
We offer our pans in 2 forms:
1) External oiling system fitted to your existing pan or on a changeover basis for $1100.00 This pan is standard on all our 383ci Stroker LS1 engine packages.
2) External oiling system fitted and extra capacity kickouts fitted to your pan or supplied on an exchange basis for $1650.00 This is an ideal pan for the bigger engines doing more extreme use where the extra 1.5 litre capacity will be useful.
Other LS1 products coming soon will be our new billet alloy 84mm throttle bodies for maximum air flow, torque and power from your 5.7 or Stroker engine.
We decided that a simple casting is not the way to go like others on the market. The billet alloy version will be more consistent in its heat dissipating charecteristics as well as lending itself to more precise flow radius machining for maximum airflow. These will retail for $695.00 approximately and be available in the next month after our final dyno testing has been completed.
For information on our any of our LS1 products call (03)9571-4204 or email us at come@comeracing.com

TORANA C.O.M.E 1 Test Bed
Last months outing for the C.O.M.E 1 Torana was great fun for Issy. The Holden 383 equipped "Barney" is fitted with our "Terminator" 383 and a small 120 BHP Nitrous system.
Incidentally, the crank in this engine has been in the car for over 7 years and like all our Stroker cranks has survived very well.
Car ran 8.54 E.T @ 156 MPH the car is 2600lbs race ready.
Look out for updates on the test bed when it receives an all alloy C.O.M.E Racing 400ci engine in the near future.
Unfortunately with the last 3 years of "no National Open" race meetings here in Melbourne we only occassionaly take the car out to Calder street meetings.
A bit of history: This car with one of our normally aspirated 615ci mountain motors held the Australian Super Sedan record from 1993-2002.
