Calder Park Drag Racing

Professional Drag Racing returns to Calder Park in Melbourne

After more than 7 long years, Victorian Drag Racers can celebrate the return of Drag Racing to Australia's "home of Drag Racing" Calder Park in Melbourne. I was fortunate enough to visit the track this week after being invited by the new Drag Racing manager, Nez Demaj. Nez, his brothers and indeed many other "old timers" like us in Melbourne Drag Racing go back a long way. To see Drag Racing in the hands of someone with Nez's common sense racer approach is the most positive advance to restoring drag racing in Melbourne to its former glory.

Calder Park is still the track that has seen 10 years of Drag Racing Nationals action through the '90's, the biggest crowds and the most electrifying racing in the history of the sport in Australia. Now with major reconstruction work underway including the full track resurfacing we can all look forward to an amazing resurgence of the sport in Victoria. It will take total racer support and committment to make the relaunch of Pro racing there again. All of you that have cars bedded away or under construction can look forward to enjoying the sport once again at the countries premier venue in its usual relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Calder management is sparing no expense to this refurbishment including the addition of a new 800 metre run off for maximum racer safety. Something very siginificant in the light of the recent untimely death of Scott Kalitta in the U.S at a track where the run off area was fairly short considering the incredible performance potential of the current fuel cars. Calders's total track length will now be a staggering 1.2 kms so safe fast racing will always be the order of the day when the upgrades are completed before the end of this year. In response to the great news about our local track coming to life again we are offering some great deals on our parts and services to help you cut the cost of building your projects in preparation for the new race season at Calder and for that matter anywhere around Australia. The Drag Race community realises only too well the importance of having a Victorian track operating to full capacity to enable local racers to maintain their competitive edge and to keep the young upcoming racers who are presently racing their street cars in a safe controlled Drag Race environment rather than on the street.
